[Drama Chat] The drama you couldn’t love even though you wanted to

Another great topic– thanks @missvictrix!
What I find interesting about the lists so far is that while everyone is apologetic thinking they will offend, I liked many of the dramas listed(Its Okay, Beloved Summer, Stranger, Signal, Beyond Evil), and can explain why I liked them, BUT I can easily see why people wouldn’t go for them.

However, in the offending competition, I believe I am the winner, because what I think what’s distinct about my list is that it includes many of the highest rated shows in Korea and even some of the best liked shows on Dramabeans!
Crash Landing on You–sentimental rendering of a sadly oppressed society; love can conquer ideology but for only 2 weeks a year.

Reply 1988–nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia; surprise husband for the sake of surprising and upsetting the audience.

What’s wrong with Secretary Kim–pygmalion remake that’s even more offensive to women than the original; validation of sexual harassment in the workplace.

And then the topper: I generally don’t like sageuks!
The Joseon period, just like the medieval/renaissance Europe, might have been culturally rich, but was based on an authoritarian, patriachal assumptions–women had no rights; the poor were brutalized. Not to mention that aristocratic men’s fashion was absurd, rivaled only by men’s fashion in the 1970s. No nostalgia for either period here!
