Exploring family, friendship, and love in new promos for tvN’s Our Blues

With each new teaser for tvN’s upcoming omnibus Our Blues, we see more of the threads that connect the individual story lines, and I like that it feels as if we’re stepping into what life is like in their small community on Jeju Island.

In a town where everyone knows each other, for better or for worse, Park Ji-hwan (Black Dog) and Choi Young-joon (Inspector Koo) are reluctant neighbors with a longstanding feud. In the teaser, we see how their pent-up resentment often leads to petty posturing and sometimes even escalates into full-on fights.

Lee Byung-heon (Mr. Sunshine) has some fun egging them on in one such scene and Kim Woo-bin (Uncontrollably Fond) soon steps in to stop them. Park and Choi’s rivalry also inadvertently causes a Romeo-Juliet situation when their teenage kids, Bae Hyun-sung (Hospital Playlist 2) and Noh Yoon-seo, fall in love. Suffice to say, the two dads are none to pleased when they find out.

In the next teaser, we move onto Lee Jung-eun (Juvenile Justice). After reuniting with her bestie Uhm Jung-hwa (You’re Too Much, Witch’s Romance), Lee has another blast from the past when she runs into her first love Cha Seung-won (One Ordinary Day).

The two happily reminisce about their past and have fun goofing off together, just like the old days. But their reunion is bittersweet and tinged with sadness from the realities of their present, which eventually close in on their relationship. Faced with the truth, Lee Jung-eun leaves Cha Seung-won with the sad question of how much of himself is a lie.

The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” has never been more true as in our third teaser, and it’s sweet to see everyone coming together when the young Ki So-yoo (Oh My Baby) comes to stay with Granny Go Du-shim (The One and Only).

It’s not easy taking care of a child, especially when Ki isn’t used to the new food and surroundings – not to mention that Granny also has to work. Starting with an awkward Lee Byung-heon, Ki gets passed through the care of different uncles, including Kim Woo-bin as well as the more experienced dads, Choi Young-joon and Park Ji-hwan. As each day passes, though, Go worries that Ki’s mother might not come back for the child. But when a crying Ki shares the same fear, Granny Go and Kim Hye-ja (The Light in Your Eyes) can’t help but laugh at how cute she is.

Although not featured in the latest teasers, we do get a peek at Shin Mina (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), Han Ji-min (One Spring Night), and Uhm Jung-hwa along with the rest of the cast in the newest poster that dropped this week.
