I would split bad dramas happening to good actors (keyword being good, bc there are many bad dramas that happen to bad actors) into 2 categories: 1) drama looks good on paper, and 2) drama looks bad on paper. With 1), you understand why the actor signed on; with 2) you’re questioning if the actor was blackmailed into signing on or was drunk when they signed on.
Jirisan belongs to category #1. The writer has a great track record , the director has a good track record, and the premise of the story sounded interesting. It was unexpected how none of those things came together.
Arthdal might belong to category #1, though personally I would’ve broken my agreement as soon as I saw the costumes.
Sisyphus belongs to category #2. Till this day, I am baffled how Cho Seungwoo of all people got roped into this. Did he not read the script or notice that his costar is Park Shinhye? If Korea ever had Actors Roundtable, I want someone to ask him how he agreed to this show.
