Meet the leads of Netflix’s Love to Hate You

Meet the leads of Netflix’s Love to Hate You

With Netflix’s new rom-com series Love to Hate You headed our way in two weeks, we have character teasers to give us a taste of the enemies-to-lovers hjinks ahead.

The “romantic healing” series stars Kim Ok-bin (Dark Hole) and Yoo Teo (Dr. Brain) in the lead, with Go Won-hee (Revolutionary Sisters), Kim Ji-hoon, and Lee Joo-bin (both of Money Heist: Korea) supporting. I’ve waxed poetic about our supporting cast already, so it’s time to focus on the character teasers and our leads.

In our first teaser we learn all about our cynical actor-hero Kang-ho (Yoo Teo). He’s known as a heartthrob and “God of Romance”… but behind the scenes, he’s cringing at the scripts he’s acting out. When his boss/friend/manager (Kim Ji-hoon) encourages the fake dating contract with our heroine, though, everything starts to change.

Through the quick cuts of the trailer we see that our heroine is different from the other women clinging to him, and that something that was frozen in him is now thawing. Okay, I wasn’t exactly feeling this romance much, but it got a little heart-fluttery at the end there!

In our second teaser we focus on our heroine Mi-ran (Kim Ok-bin). She’s a feisty attorney who has no trouble going gangster when there are bad guys to be taken care of. When she gets entangled with Kang-ho, though, her innate mistrust of men rises up. Though she seems to be falling for him, she tries to remind herself that he’s a misogynist and an actor.

I’d argue that these trailers give away too many of the drama’s key scenes… but I’ll also admit that the non-stop push and pull we see is way cuter than I thought at first, and I’m kind of looking forward to the completely cheeky and by-the-books rom-com this looks like it’ll become. Throw in some dramaland meta, and we’re good to go.

Netflix continues to flood us with promotional material, and in addition to the above teasers and the recent stills drop, we also have a new amazingly air-brushed poster out, which leans more to the romance side of the story.

Directed by Kim Jung-kwon (Lies of Lies) and written by Choi Soo-young (My ID Is Gangnam Beauty), the 10-episode drama Love to Hate You drops on Friday, February 10.
