Joo-won is a phantom thief in Stealer

Joo-won is a phantom thief in Stealer

Who doesn’t love a good heist? In the first teaser for tvN’s upcoming action comedy Stealer: The Treasure Keeper (previously Stealer: Seven Joseon Coins), we get a glimpse into the adventures of the cultural artifact thief “Skunk” as Joo-won (Alice) displays his action prowess.

Decked out in an all-black tech-equipped bodysuit, the infamous Skunk stands atop a roof. He’s ready to commence his latest robbery, and with a daredevil plunge off the ledge, he’s crashing into a window to obtain the elusive treasure within. As he says in voiceover, tonight is his only chance — it’s now or never.

In contrast to his adrenaline-filled nighttime escapades, Skunk’s civilian persona is a lot more down to earth. As Hwang Dae-myung, he’s an ordinary civil servant who’s dull and dispassionate at his job in the cultural heritage administration. But his clandestine crimes soon earn him the notice of “Karma,” a secret organization that recovers cultural artifacts.

See, Skunk is a bit of a Robin Hood — he only swipes artifacts that have been illegally obtained by the affluent high society. Although the authorities are hot on Skunk’s heels, his competence and moral compass align perfectly with Karma’s, making him a perfect addition to the team.

Skunk’s first encounter with Karma has him coming face to face with leader Jang Tae-in, played by Jo Han-chul (Big Bet). As Skunk makes his escape, he meets with the muzzle of Tae-in’s gun. Unaware of his true agenda just yet, a wary Tae-in demands to know Skunk’s identity.

Well, that’s a question someone else would also like to hear the answer to. Played by Lee Deok-hwa (One Dollar Lawyer), antagonist Kim Young-soo has wealth in spades. Presumably, his insatiable greed will manifest in the illicit hoarding of cultural artifacts, putting him at odds with our heroes.

Though we don’t see her in the teaser just yet, Lee Joo-woo (Why Her) plays Choi Min-woo, a tenacious police officer who has just been transferred to the cultural assets unit. And rounding out the rest of the Karma team, we have Kim Jae-won (Our Blues) as the zealous maknae Shin Chang-hoon, and Choi Hwa-jung (Jealousy Incarnate) as the elite hacker Lee Choon-ja.

Directed by Choi Joon-bae (Mouse) and written by Shin Kyung-il, Stealer: The Treasure Keeper premieres on April 12.
