I am not at all surprised at Taxi Driver 2’s success, since it follows the tried and true Mission Impossible format, replete with a beautiful hacker and a superhero for whom dispatching 5 thugs is child’s play. However, this season has been a little more complex in the villainous circumstances that our justice vigilantes must confront. It also has involved fewer fighting scenes, so I wonder how the week to week ratings compare with Taxi Driver 1 (I’m too lazy to look it up.)
On the face of it, I would say the first season would have a broader appeal because of the simple pleasure of watching Lee Je-Hoon beat up bad guys vs. the moral complexities of contemplating what constitutes an exploitive religious cult or whether the health care system of Korea is set up for fraud.
