Kim Bora finds a new family at Finland Papa cafe

A cozy slice-of-life series called Finland Papa is on the horizon later this month coming from Cinema Heaven, a sister channel to ENA. New promos have been released, including posters and a video teaser of our main cast led by Kim Bora (Love Scene Number).
The promos deliver plenty of warm fuzzies for our heroine Yuri (Kim Bora), who had been needing comfort after her grandma’s death and the mysterious disappearance of her first love Woo-hyun – played by former Up10tion member Kim Woo-seok (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls). The story then follows Yuri’s journey as she starts work at the Finland Papa cafe and forges new family bonds with her three oddball co-workers, who are similarly dealing with painful pasts of their own.
The teaser opens with a high school student Yuri taking photos with Woo-hyun and a third friend. Bringing dinner to the table, Grandma warmly tells the kids to live well and stay close friends, even after she’s gone.
We then jump ahead to that sad future, when Yuri applies for a part-time position at Finland Papa cafe. Jung Min-sung (Happiness), playing Kaka, first tells her that it’s time for dinner and Yuri is ushered to the table to eat. But when she asks about the job interview Hwang Seok-jung (Jinxed at First), playing Mari, tells her it’s done. Kaka then explains that, “The job interview is eating dinner together.”
The appearing text screen describes the cafe as a suspicious but friendly place and Jang Do-yoon (My Sweet Dear) reveals that, “Papa emailed us saying the part-timer would be coming…” Yuri asks who Papa is, but Mari replies, “The owner of this Finland Papa. We’re curious who Papa is too.” The question is then asked again in the following text screen, “Papa, who are you?”
For her training, Yuri is given a protocol sheet titled, “The 10 rules for family harmony.” Yuri shares that the first rule is her favorite and it’s repeated in the appearing text screen as well: “Dinner is always eaten together.” Yuri discusses the situation with her friend, believing that Papa is someone who knows her. Her friend then expresses that, “Even if we don’t know who Papa is, I think it’s a good thing that you went there.”
As we watch the many and happy meals shared by our foursome, the final two text screens conclude: “Papa isn’t here, but we are together. The heartwarming tale of a suspicious cafe’s fake family.” We learn in a flashback that Yuri had promised to wait for Woo-hyun and go to see auroras together. But back in the present, Yuri smiles as she hangs her apron next to the others. The teaser then closes as she reflects on her growth: “I think my heart is slowly gaining muscle.”
With scripts by Won Young-jin and co-directing by PD Park Soo-min and PD Mo Young-jin, Finland Papa premieres this month on April 29 and will be available internationally on Viki.
