Childhood friends meet reality dating TV in Oh! Young-shim

Script reading stills for the new ENA rom-com Oh! Young-shim have arrived with our two leads Song Ha-yoon (Please Don’t Date Him) and Super Junior’s Lee Dong-hae (a.k.a. Donghae) (God’s Quiz 4).
The story follows Song Ha-yoon’s character — the titular Oh Young-shim. She’s a single, thirty-something variety show PD who’s been working for eight years, but lacks a hit program to show for it. While she’s always leaned toward comedic TV, she one day gets the opportunity to produce a reality dating show. Considering this her last chance, she pulls out all the stops, including casting the oh-so-famous unicorn start-up founder Mark Wang (Donghae) as one of the contestants.
However, things get messy when she finds out that not only does she know Mark Wang, he’s actually Wang Kyung-tae, a childhood friend that had a raging crush on her when they were kids. They had lost contact after his family moved to the States, but he’s now back in Korea, ready to win some lucky lady’s heart.
In the supporting cast, we have Lee Min-jae (Taxi Driver 2), playing Young-shim’s PD hoobae who’s also nursing a crush (cue: love triangle), and Jung Woo-yeon (Meant to Be), playing a YouTuber and Young-shim’s friend Goo Wol-sook.
This plot sounds similar to Love is for Suckers, and considering how in that drama fellow Super Junior member Siwon also played a well-to-do bachelor roped into a dating show while secretly in love with the PD, I’m excited to watch this show and compare how the two play out. Better yet, if we could make playing this type of character a Super Junior tradition, I think that would be endlessly entertaining. Someone please make it happen.
Written by Jeon Seon-young (A DeadbEAT’s Meal) and directed by Oh Hwan-min (Boss-dol Mart) and Kim Eun-kyung (Show Me the Ghost), Oh! Young-shim will premiere on May 15th on ENA and Genie streaming platforms.
